What this means
Official Army Chapter 10c PDF qualifying-score section verified; non-score requirements remain separate.
The score listed above is the minimum line score threshold from the official Army MOS specification. Meeting this threshold does not guarantee enlistment — additional requirements such as OPAT physical testing, security clearance, medical screening, and training availability are evaluated separately by your recruiter. To see how GM 106 compares with the rest of the Army, read what counts as a good ASVAB score.
Which ASVAB subtests count toward 12D
12D is judged on 3 line scores. The subtests listed below are the Army's nominal definition of each aptitude area from DA PAM 611-21, Military Occupational Classification and Structure, Table 10-1 (ASVAB aptitude area composites). The score actually printed on your report is computed on the 1997 scale as a weighted sum of seven standard scores (DMDC 2004, Table 2.7) and may give weight to subtests outside the nominal list; GT is the exception and equals AR + VE exactly. Use the line score on your report, or compute it from your standard scores.
GS + AS + MK + EI
GS (General Science), AS (Auto and Shop Information), MK (Mathematics Knowledge), EI (Electronics Information).
VE (verbal: WK and PC) + AR
WK (Word Knowledge), PC (Paragraph Comprehension), AR (Arithmetic Reasoning).
GS + VE (verbal: WK and PC) + MK + MC
GS (General Science), WK (Word Knowledge), PC (Paragraph Comprehension), MK (Mathematics Knowledge), MC (Mechanical Comprehension).
If your score is below GM ≥ 98 and (GT ≥ 107 or ST ≥ 106)
Your ASVAB report lists every line score, so start by finding GM and GT and ST and noting the exact gap. A small gap in one composite is usually closed by improving the subtests that feed it, and each subtest counts toward several line scores at once.
Practice on this site: GS (General Science), AS (Auto and Shop Information), MK (Mathematics Knowledge), EI (Electronics Information), WK (Word Knowledge), PC (Paragraph Comprehension), AR (Arithmetic Reasoning), MC (Mechanical Comprehension). A retest is subject to Army retest rules and timing; ask your recruiter before planning around one. Practice results here are raw scores and never convert into an official line score.
Engineers jobs ranked by ASVAB threshold
All 9 currently verified CMF 12 entries on this site, ordered by the lowest score that satisfies each rule. 12D sits at position 8: 7 jobs list a lower threshold and 1 lists a higher one. Thresholds in different line scores are not directly comparable.

Other Army jobs judged on GM (General Maintenance)
Because these MOS share the GM line score with 12D, the same subtests decide your standing for all of them. Jobs at or below 12D's threshold are fallback options; jobs above it are what a higher GM unlocks.
- 88H Cargo Specialist — GM ≥ 88
- 91C Utilities Equipment Repairer — GM ≥ 93 or (GM ≥ 88 and GT ≥ 85)

Frequently asked questions
What ASVAB score do I need for 12D Diver?
The verified score threshold recorded for this MOS is GM ≥ 98 and (GT ≥ 107 or ST ≥ 106). Other requirements such as OPAT, clearance, and training are separate.
Which ASVAB subtests count toward the GM and GT and ST score for 12D?
GM (General Maintenance) is nominally GS + AS + MK + EI. GT (General Technical) is nominally VE (verbal: WK and PC) + AR. ST (Skilled Technical) is nominally GS + VE (verbal: WK and PC) + MK + MC. The reported score is a weighted sum of seven standard scores on the 1997 scale, so subtests outside that list can also count. Compare the line score printed on your ASVAB report against GM ≥ 98 and (GT ≥ 107 or ST ≥ 106), or compute it from your standard scores with the calculator.
Is AFQT enough to qualify for 12D?
No. AFQT is used for general enlistment qualification. 12D uses specific Army line scores (GM ≥ 98 and (GT ≥ 107 or ST ≥ 106)), and the line-score rule shown here is the verified threshold. These are composite scores calculated from ASVAB subtests and are different from your AFQT percentile.
Are there Engineers jobs with a lower ASVAB threshold than 12D?
Yes. Among the 9 currently verified CMF 12 entries on this site, 7 list a lower entry threshold than 12D and 1 list a higher one. The ranked table on this page shows each requirement; a lower threshold in a different line score is not directly comparable to GM ≥ 98 and (GT ≥ 107 or ST ≥ 106).
Where does this 12D score requirement come from?
The verified threshold is recorded from the official Army MOS specification document. Chapter 10c initial entry qualification. Source checked on 2026-09-12.
