What this means

Official Army Chapter 10c PDF qualifying-score section verified; non-score requirements remain separate.

The score listed above is the minimum line score threshold from the official Army MOS specification. Meeting this threshold does not guarantee enlistment — additional requirements such as OPAT physical testing, security clearance, medical screening, and training availability are evaluated separately by your recruiter. To see how MM 91 compares with the rest of the Army, read what counts as a good ASVAB score.

Which ASVAB subtests count toward 14H

14H is judged on 2 line scores. The subtests listed below are the Army's nominal definition of each aptitude area from DA PAM 611-21, Military Occupational Classification and Structure, Table 10-1 (ASVAB aptitude area composites). The score actually printed on your report is computed on the 1997 scale as a weighted sum of seven standard scores (DMDC 2004, Table 2.7) and may give weight to subtests outside the nominal list; GT is the exception and equals AR + VE exactly. Use the line score on your report, or compute it from your standard scores.

MM — Mechanical Maintenance

NO + AS + MC + EI

NO (Numerical Operations), AS (Auto and Shop Information), MC (Mechanical Comprehension), EI (Electronics Information).

NO is a legacy subtest no longer administered; the Army scores MM from the remaining subtests.

GT — General Technical

If your score is below MM ≥ 91 and GT ≥ 90

Your ASVAB report lists every line score, so start by finding MM and GT and noting the exact gap. A small gap in one composite is usually closed by improving the subtests that feed it, and each subtest counts toward several line scores at once.

Practice on this site: AS (Auto and Shop Information), MC (Mechanical Comprehension), EI (Electronics Information), WK (Word Knowledge), PC (Paragraph Comprehension), AR (Arithmetic Reasoning). Start a AS, MC, EI, WK, PC, AR practice set for 14H →

Not testable: NO no longer appear on the ASVAB, so there is nothing to practice for them.

A retest is subject to Army retest rules and timing; ask your recruiter before planning around one. Practice results here are raw scores and never convert into an official line score.

Because these MOS share the MM line score with 14H, the same subtests decide your standing for all of them. Jobs at or below 14H's threshold are fallback options; jobs above it are what a higher MM unlocks.

Frequently asked questions

What ASVAB score do I need for 14H Air Defense Enhanced Early Warning Operator?

The verified score threshold recorded for this MOS is MM ≥ 91 and GT ≥ 90. Other requirements such as OPAT, clearance, and training are separate.

Which ASVAB subtests count toward the MM and GT score for 14H?

MM (Mechanical Maintenance) is nominally NO + AS + MC + EI. GT (General Technical) is nominally VE (verbal: WK and PC) + AR. The reported score is a weighted sum of seven standard scores on the 1997 scale, so subtests outside that list can also count. Compare the line score printed on your ASVAB report against MM ≥ 91 and GT ≥ 90, or compute it from your standard scores with the calculator.

Is AFQT enough to qualify for 14H?

No. AFQT is used for general enlistment qualification. 14H uses specific Army line scores (MM ≥ 91 and GT ≥ 90), and the line-score rule shown here is the verified threshold. These are composite scores calculated from ASVAB subtests and are different from your AFQT percentile.

Are there Air Defense jobs with a lower ASVAB threshold than 14H?

Yes. Among the 5 currently verified CMF 14 entries on this site, 2 list a lower entry threshold than 14H and 1 list a higher one. The ranked table on this page shows each requirement; a lower threshold in a different line score is not directly comparable to MM ≥ 91 and GT ≥ 90.

Where does this 14H score requirement come from?

The verified threshold is recorded from the official Army MOS specification document. Chapter 10c initial entry qualification. Source checked on 2026-09-12.
