What this means

Official Army Chapter 10c PDF lists minimum OF 85; OPAT, training, clearance and other requirements remain separate.

The score listed above is the minimum line score threshold from the official Army MOS specification. Meeting this threshold does not guarantee enlistment — additional requirements such as OPAT physical testing, security clearance, medical screening, and training availability are evaluated separately by your recruiter. To see how OF 85 compares with the rest of the Army, read what counts as a good ASVAB score.

Which ASVAB subtests count toward 88M

88M is judged on one line score. The subtests listed below are the Army's nominal definition of each aptitude area from DA PAM 611-21, Military Occupational Classification and Structure, Table 10-1 (ASVAB aptitude area composites). The score actually printed on your report is computed on the 1997 scale as a weighted sum of seven standard scores (DMDC 2004, Table 2.7) and may give weight to subtests outside the nominal list; GT is the exception and equals AR + VE exactly. Use the line score on your report, or compute it from your standard scores.

OF — Operators and Food

VE (verbal: WK and PC) + NO + AS + MC

WK (Word Knowledge), PC (Paragraph Comprehension), NO (Numerical Operations), AS (Auto and Shop Information), MC (Mechanical Comprehension).

NO is a legacy subtest no longer administered; the Army scores OF from the remaining subtests.

If your score is below OF ≥ 85

Your ASVAB report lists every line score, so start by finding OF and noting the exact gap. A small gap in one composite is usually closed by improving the subtests that feed it, and each subtest counts toward several line scores at once.

Practice on this site: WK (Word Knowledge), PC (Paragraph Comprehension), AS (Auto and Shop Information), MC (Mechanical Comprehension). Start a WK, PC, AS, MC practice set for 88M →

Not testable: NO no longer appear on the ASVAB, so there is nothing to practice for them.

A retest is subject to Army retest rules and timing; ask your recruiter before planning around one. Practice results here are raw scores and never convert into an official line score.

Because these MOS share the OF line score with 88M, the same subtests decide your standing for all of them. Jobs at or below 88M's threshold are fallback options; jobs above it are what a higher OF unlocks.

Frequently asked questions

What ASVAB score do I need for 88M Motor Transport Operator?

The verified score threshold recorded for this MOS is OF ≥ 85. Other requirements such as OPAT, clearance, and training are separate.

Which ASVAB subtests count toward the OF score for 88M?

OF (Operators and Food) is nominally VE (verbal: WK and PC) + NO + AS + MC. The reported score is a weighted sum of seven standard scores on the 1997 scale, so subtests outside that list can also count. Compare the line score printed on your ASVAB report against OF ≥ 85, or compute it from your standard scores with the calculator.

Is AFQT enough to qualify for 88M?

No. AFQT is used for general enlistment qualification. 88M uses specific Army line scores (OF ≥ 85), and the line-score rule shown here is the verified threshold. These are composite scores calculated from ASVAB subtests and are different from your AFQT percentile.

Are there Transportation jobs with a lower ASVAB threshold than 88M?

No. 88M has the lowest entry threshold among the 5 currently verified CMF 88 entries on this site; 4 list a higher one.

Where does this 88M score requirement come from?

The verified threshold is recorded from the official Army MOS specification document. Initial award, Chapter 10c; score requirement verified in official Army PDF. Source checked on 2026-09-12.
