What this means

The official Army Chapter 10c PDF marks MOS 12M rescinded 202510. The historical GM 88 threshold is retained for reference and excluded from current matching.

This historical rule is retained for auditability and is not a current qualification threshold. To see how GM 88 compares with the rest of the Army, read what counts as a good ASVAB score.

Which ASVAB subtests count toward 12M

12M is judged on one line score. The subtests listed below are the Army's nominal definition of each aptitude area from DA PAM 611-21, Military Occupational Classification and Structure, Table 10-1 (ASVAB aptitude area composites). The score actually printed on your report is computed on the 1997 scale as a weighted sum of seven standard scores (DMDC 2004, Table 2.7) and may give weight to subtests outside the nominal list; GT is the exception and equals AR + VE exactly. Use the line score on your report, or compute it from your standard scores.

If your score is below GM ≥ 88

Your ASVAB report lists every line score, so start by finding GM and noting the exact gap. A small gap in one composite is usually closed by improving the subtests that feed it, and each subtest counts toward several line scores at once.

Frequently asked questions

What ASVAB score do I need for 12M Firefighter?

A historical GM ≥ 88 rule appears in the source, but MOS 12M was rescinded 2025-10; this record cannot provide a current qualification conclusion.

Which ASVAB subtests count toward the GM score for 12M?

GM (General Maintenance) is nominally GS + AS + MK + EI. The reported score is a weighted sum of seven standard scores on the 1997 scale, so subtests outside that list can also count. Compare the line score printed on your ASVAB report against GM ≥ 88, or compute it from your standard scores with the calculator.

Is AFQT enough to qualify for 12M?

No. AFQT is used for general enlistment qualification. 12M uses specific Army line scores (GM ≥ 88), though the historical rule shown here is rescinded. These are composite scores calculated from ASVAB subtests and are different from your AFQT percentile.

Where does this 12M score requirement come from?

The historical rule is retained for auditability; the MOS is rescinded 2025-10, so it cannot provide a current qualification conclusion.
